Fay fizzled (or, Nobody knows anything)

It would appear that would-be hurricane Fay fizzled out a bit... expected to wake up this morning around 5 a.m. to tropical storm type winds and rain, but instead I started awake a bit after 7 a.m. and realized "uh, it's not even drizzling outside!"

It looks like Fay would rather visit the east coast of Florida instead, at least according to the current weather models. Pfft. Tourist. Everybody heads to Orlando...(As a side note, it was funny listening to the weather guy throwing the east side of Florida under the bus last night. "Well, Fay is going to be heading over towards the east coast, so everything is just fine!")

Seriously, though, this has been a bit of an education for me, even minus the actual storm. It's interesting that, given all the experts and all of the technology that is at their disposal, still -- nobody really knew what was going to happen. At the end of the day, it's all best guesses and even those were pretty much wrong. But, we got lucky this time. I hope that people don't take this as a sign that they can discount the warnings in the future, though -- because it can go the other way just as easily.

It also pointed out to me that I'm not quite as well prepared for this sort of thing as I'd like, so this weekend will be (in part) about getting ready so that if/when this comes up again, there's no scrambling around and worrying about what to do and whether there's enough non-perishable food and such around if power goes out for a few days.
