I went to the 5th Third Bank Branch in Gibsonton,Fl 02/26/2010 with a check that was given to me by one of their commerical customers. When he wrote it he said go to my bank down the street and they will take care of cashing it. When I presented the check I was told it would be a $5 charge because I did not have an account with them. Asked if I wanted to open an account I anwsered I would not used a bank that would not cash their on check. They got real snotty and said go to your on bank and cash the check. This bank and their employees need a wake up call and I will let all of my customers and anyone else who asks what a bunch of rude and greedy bank they operate.Anywhere but 5th Third Bank.

5/3 is the worst bank I have ever banked with. I have a auto loan with them and always make my payments in plenty of time. But 5/3 would call and say they did not receive there payment a day before it was do and ask to do a payment over the phone. To avoid being late I would do it and the next day they would cash my check. So they would get a double payment that month. So they did this to me several times until I had enough of these games. I will no long give them a payment over the phone just so they can get more money out of me a month.A nd I'm sick of them threating me with making my credit bad if I don't double pay. Is this happening to anyone else?

An out of control bank. Period.
Go to 53.com, simply print and review their financial statements. They deceive via marketing without overtly lying. For instance, recent boasts from the bank is that they increased commercial lending 1.8 billion dollars for December over November to grow jobs , etc. Truth is, for 2009, commercial lending is down a stunning 5 billion dollars yr over yr data. Thats a depressing number. on average, every 100k creates a small business job. 53 bank ALONE by reducing loan activity cost our region some 50k jobs in 2009. In the banks defense, Americans, especially in the tri-state area are seemingly borderline "socialists". As a region, we increased our deposits to this bank by a whopping 24%. Not only do we agree with the bailout, we financially endorse socialism on an exponential scale by giving this bank billions more in deposits. Its sad, but numbers dont lie. Another deception that troubles me with this bank is mortgages. Historically, this bank boasted "we never sell our mortgages". Gave customers a sense that this bank was fantastically capitalized and cared about their customers by keeping the loans internal.
The truth? Anyone reading this, go to their website and find the link as to where your mortgage is now. YOU ARE NOW a loan that has been sold off to Fannie or Freddie. Mysteriously, the bank keeps this info to themselves. In otherwords, they BRAG non stop about their mortgage activity, when in fact, you the people, the taxpayers are 100% guaranteeing YOUR OWN LOANS as Fannie and Freddie are Government Sponsored Entities strapped with taxpayer guarantees. NO RISK to the bank, its OUR risk, yet the bank takes the profits. Same ole boring story, this bank privatizes their profits, and when they do have a bad year or lose money, they have NO PROBLEM socializing losses. Wouldnt it be nice to be 53 bank? Go to Las Vegas, if you win, keep the money. If you lose, the taxpayers bail you out. How WONDERFUL it must be to call yourself Fifth Third Bank.

When did it become fact that a payroll deposit made in the bank is not available to you immediately, but a direct deposit is?

I got car loan from fifth third bank. The loan was on automatic withdrawal. Somehow the automatic withdrawal was halted. I got a phone called from fifth third bank demanding (threatening) the miss payments to be paid that same day. I did not receive any notices whatsoever so i thought it was a prank. He left a message: "Don't say i didn't give you a chance." Turn out that that one call was all they care about. Avoid Fifth Third Bank at all cost. They do not care for their customers!!

What a nightmare.... A quagmire of officers that have no idea where to send you or what to do. I made the mistake of getting my car loan through this Cincinnati hell-hole of a corporation and have regretted it every step of the way. Fees, misinformation, broken promises. Yikes. I just looked at the CEO online - he was smiling... I'm not. I'm not the CEO of anything, but at least I can feel good about what I bring to the world.

I have banked with Fifth Third for over tewlve years. Eleven of the twelve years were great. This year has been unbelievable. Fifth Third has a 2:00PM policy as we all know; that is if it only works in their're favor and the 24hour policy isn't so. I took a car payment to my loan institution after 4:00PM so it wouldn't post until the following day. I had made a deposit to my fifth third checking the day before but knew that my 24hrs would clear that night. Well guess what, they posted that car payment to my account from another bank that evening before they posted my deposit to my checking account that I hade made 24 hrs prior. I called my banking center & the said thay couldn't control what another bank does. This is just a small insight to what has been going on. To all the people that have made the comment that it is my fault explain to me why up to a year ago I have banked this exact way & this double standard way of business has just started this year. Think about how much profit they must need to catch back up after loaning people all that money that they had no business loaning. I didn't get a loan from them but I know that my money they keep stealing is making up for there stupidity. I noticed that it happens about every 3 months then all of a sudden 24hrs becomes 36hrs & my deposit still isn't posted even though I deposited as cash through the ATM. I know they don't need to wait for cash to clear right. Tjis is unethical & I am pulling out.

My husband and I was recently encountered by the great services of 5/3 bank. I say this because we had looked into Fifth Third Bank to refinance our home mortage after a sales call from them. We were pre-approved at the begining and spent a very lengthy month in a half sending them same information to them several different times. Yes, my thoughts exactly what did they do with our private information that had already been sent to them. When I expressed that concern to the person that was over seeing our loan application her response was not very conforting. She appologized several times and said that had they had a community fax machine. I told her that I had also e-mailed the information. She appologized repeatedly but, could not tell me what had happen to the information that was sent to her. Probably not the smartest decission but, my husband and I sent the information again. Then after the lengthy month and half going back and fourth with them and phone calls to them to get a status from them. The lady says our loan was turned down since our home was a manufactured home? I then got very upset since my husband was asked that very question in the very begining and they had told us that it would be approved as long as it was on a permanent foundation which it is. She begin appologizing repeatly again and said that sales person should have been aware of the qualifications for their loan applications. Still not good enough for me and now I'm in fear of this hurting our credit which I feel is not our fault. I'm going to see what I do to dispute it on my credit report and possibly reporting this to the Better Business Buearu. After our experience I would not recommend 5/3 Bank to anyone and can not believe they are still business if this is the way they conduct business!!!

I did not have my checking or savings accounts with Fifth Turd. Thank God. I had an auto loan, which was bad enough, with them about 3 years ago. My payback to them is to tell everyone in St. Louis not to use them. My friends know.. my friend's friends know.. so on and so forth. I have even told people about this site and other sites that have Fifth Third complaints.. the less people they can victimize here the better. And if you think "that can happen to me" or "I know better than.. " you are a fool.
